The Pigment of Your Imagination explores these and other questions within the United States and througout the world.

By combining vivid anecdotes of her travels, historical context, and oral histories from mixed-race families, Joy Zarembka examines the notion of race in order to explore the vastly different interpretations of racial identity in various parts of the world in her new book, "The Pigment of Your Imagination: Mixed Race in a Global Society" (Madera Press 2007).

Alicia Keys is Hooked on Running

April 6, 2007--Las Vegas, Nev. -- Singer-turned-actress Alicia Keys was so highly inspired with long-distance running while training for her role in a movie, “Smokin’ Aces,” that she ran a marathon. The R&B singer picked up this new sport as a hobby from her debut film. Her love for marathon running grew to such an extent that she traveled to Greece to run on the original marathon route. Panama-born Miss Tennessee Wins Miss USA 2007 Competition

March 23, 2007--Hollywood, Ca.--21-year-old Rachel Smith realized her dreams and was crowned Miss USA® 2007. The bi-racial beauty queen’s accomplishments include humanitarian efforts that have allowed her the opportunity to travel the world; she has been to Mexico twice and multiple times to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Smith graduated from Belmont University, Tenn., Magna Cum Laude with a BS in Journalism. She attended on a full scholarship and was extremely active during her studies. She served as the Managing Editor of the campus newspaper, The Belmont Vision, and news director for the campus radio station. She also interned locally at Nashville's CBS affiliate WTVF and nationally with Harpo Productions, Inc., in 2006, spending eight months in Chicago.

Smith was born on an army base in Panama. However, she grew up in Clarksville, Tenn., after her parents were reassigned to Fort Campbell. Read more.

Hollywood Films Portray Biracial Couples Negatively, if Shown at All

October 11, 2006--Gainesville, Fla.--Despite growing numbers of mixed couples in America, movie relationships between men and women of different races are most likely to be short-lived, oversexed and downright dangerous, a new University of Florida study finds in a report.

“A man and a woman of different races in the movies have a greater statistical probability of dying than of getting married or dating seriously,” said Nadia Ramoutar, who did the research for her doctoral dissertation in mass communications at UF and is now a communications professor at Flagler College in St. Augustine.
